Katherine Short

Having been involved in sustainable seafood for over twenty years, I'm honored and excited to be creating OSA with this awesome team.

Katherine understands how critical it is that those reliant on natural resources for their livelihoods can, and are supported to, adopt more sustainable practices and she approaches this with passion, honesty, creativity and perseverance. A nature lover, Katherine comes from a maritime family and had a global career with WWF (~17 yrs) growing healthy and well-managed fisheries. She has extensive experience in supporting the uptake of the Marine Stewardship Council globally and sustainable seafood more broadly.

Returning home to New Zealand in 2011 she completed a Conservation Science Masters (Imperial College London) on natural capital and ecosystem services. In 2013 she established F.L.O.W. Collaborative (Fisheries.Livelihoods.Oceans.Well-being) and partnered with Tony Craig in Terra Moana Ltd, as marine sustainable business advisers. They are key advisers to Moana New Zealand, the largest Māori owned seafood company and the only business owned by all Māori Iwi (tribes).

Katherine is the General Manager of OSA International supporting the team and clients and ensuring quality assurance. She was also recently the first WWF New Zealand Emerging Director. She is a Leadership NZ Alumnus, co-founded Gecko NZ Trust (neighbourhood ecology), is a Fish4all investor, and a trained Regenesis Practitioner. Katherine has a deep commitment to people healing nature healing people, to capability building and to credible sustainability, conservation and well-being outcomes.
